Firewall / Split Rock / Bradley Mountain Boulders
75 foot traprock crag (firewall) and boulders scattered around the reservoir. Beware, parking lot closes early.
Directions from Hartford:
Take I-84 West to exit 33 (Rt 72 West). Take Exit 2 and make a right at the end of the exit onto Route 372 East. Turn right on Crooked St (536). Continue right on White Oak Ave, and turn left on Ledge Rd. Continue on Ledge Rd until you reach the small parking area on the left for Sunset Rock State Park. Fair warning! They lock the gates promptly at sunset so keep a close eye on the clock when climbing here in the afternoon.
Approach from parking lot. Follow the unmarked trail that is next to the edge of the lake. The unmarked trail splits at the eastern end of the lake. Take a right at the split. Turn Left on to Fire Rd. Take a Left on Blue Blazed Trail. You will reach top of Firewall after a stone fireplace on the left.
To reach Split Rock:
Instead of taking a left onto Fire rd. Continue straight on the dirt road until it splits. The cliff should be directly in front of you.
