75 foot traprock crag (firewall) and boulders scattered around the reservoir. Beware, parking lot closes early.

Directions from Hartford:
Take I-84 West to exit 33 (Rt 72 West). Take Exit 2 and make a right at the end of the exit onto Route 372 East. Turn right on Crooked St (536). Continue right on White Oak Ave, and turn left on Ledge Rd. Continue on Ledge Rd until you reach the small parking area on the left for Sunset Rock State Park. Fair warning! They lock the gates promptly at sunset so keep a close eye on the clock when climbing here in the afternoon.
Approach from parking lot. Follow the unmarked trail that is next to the edge of the lake. The unmarked trail splits at the eastern end of the lake. Take a right at the split. Turn Left on to Fire Rd. Take a Left on Blue Blazed Trail. You will reach top of Firewall after a stone fireplace on the left.
To reach Split Rock:
Instead of taking a left onto Fire rd. Continue straight on the dirt road until it splits. The cliff should be directly in front of you.

Ragged Mountain
Southington, CT
There are two trails that access the top. North Gully Trail and South Gully Trail. The gullies connect with the Under-cliff trail at the base of the cliff and the Metacomet trail at the top of the ridge.
Directions: From Hartford.
Take 84 West to the left exit 35 and merge onto Rt 72E. Take exit 7 for route 372. Take a right off the exit and continue east on 372 for 1.5 miles and veer right onto route 71a. Continue for 3 miles and turn onto West Lane. There is a small parking lot. Follow the wide fire road/trail. Veer left onto the Blue Blazed/Red Dot trail. Cross over a riverbed twice and appprox. 30 min later you will reach a cliff with a detached tower known as “the clock tower.” You will reach another tower called “Lost Owl Spire.” This spire is the west side of the owl's lair cliff. Continue to an open area with a large flat boulder. This is the main section of Owls Lair. The Blue Blaze/Red dot trail will bring you toward the other cliffs. Total hike is approx. 1 hr to ragged mtn face.

East Peak
90 foot crag. Great variety of routes.
Directions:
From Meridan, follow HWY 71 N. Turn west on Park dr. Turn right on Percival Park rd. to parking area. Open 9am to dusk (seasonally). The road to the top is closed evenings and during the winter. Always check the sign at the gate and make sure you don't get locked in. When the road is closed a bit of hiking is needed to get to the crags.
The city of Meriden recognizes climbing as a legitimate recreational activity on town land only for those individuals who maintain active membership with the Ragged Mountain Foundation.
Now active members of The RMF can obtain permits sanctioned by Meriden’s Department of Parks and Recreation that allow for the responsible use of the town’s many cliff sides, trails, and boulders in pursuit of rock climbing. Thanks RMF! and ACCESS FUND!
Permits can be obtained (by active dues paying RMF members only) from the Meriden Parks and Recreation building located at 460 Liberty Street between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm for a $5 fee. Please be aware that it may take up to 30 days between the time of purchasing a membership with the Ragged Mountain Foundation and appearing on the city’s list of individual climbers authorized to receive permits. Please be aware that permits are issued on an individual basis, and are not interchangeable between multiple members in a single party. Each permit issued is valid for one year from the time of registration and will require renewal annually at the parks and recreation offices to remain as such.
